The name River of Pearls came from a book I read about a woman living in Southeast Asia in the 1960s.
I had lived in Southeast Asia myself in the early 2000s, so I felt a connection to her story almost immediately.
When I began making this reticule, I already had the pearls. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I wanted them to flow over the bag like a river.
I began placing the pearls so they would fall in long strands, gathering together and cascading down the reticule. Slowly, the river I had imagined began to appear.
There is something about this reticule that takes me back to Southeast Asia—the beauty, the memories, and a part of my life that has stayed with me.
