Woman in Gold
The story behind your reticule
Gustav Klimt is one of my favourite painters. I travelled to Vienna especially to see his work at the Belvedere Museum.
Sadly, The Woman in Gold was not there, but I did get to see so many of his other beautiful works.
I came away from Vienna inspired by the richness of his paintings — the gold, the intricate patterns and, above all, the extraordinary textures.
When I began making this reticule, I wanted to create it in honour of his work.
The different beads, pearls, shapes and shades of gold were chosen and layered to give the bag that same feeling of richness and texture that I love so much in his paintings.
No two areas are quite the same.
Some are delicate, some are heavily embellished, and together they create a surface that seems to change as the light moves across it.
I called this reticule The Woman in Gold as my own small tribute to Klimt and to a journey to Vienna that I will always remember.
I hope that as you carry this reticule, you will enjoy not only its beauty and beadwork but the little piece of Vienna that inspired it.
