The story behind your reticule
Victoria Falls began with a place I have wanted to see for as long as I can remember.
I was watching a documentary about the falls, and as I watched the enormous sheets of water pour over the edge and disappear into the mist below, I knew I wanted to capture that feeling in a reticule.
I chose the soft white fabric for the mist and spray that seem to surround the falls. From there, I began adding long strands of silver beads, letting them fall freely down the bag like streams of rushing water.
The pearls became the droplets. 1 placed them along particular streams throughout the silver beading, allowing the pearls to follow the water as it seems to flow down the reticule. As the beading grew longer toward the centre, the reticule began to take on the shape and movement I had imagined-the great curtain of water plunging downward.
What I love most is that the reticule does not try to recreate Victoria Falls exactly.
It is simply my impression of it-the water, the mist, the light and the incredible
movement.
I still hope that one day I will stand in front of Victoria Falls and see it for myself.
Until then, a little piece of that dream lives in this reticule.
